Compact flash is normally type 1, originally you would also get type 2 compact flash but this isn't common except for Microdrives. The type 1 and type 2 compact flash are pin compatible the difference being that type 2 is thicker, many devices have a type 2 compact flash slot which is compatible with either compact flash type 1 or 2.
